Bing tweaked for Pro-Microsoft results

August 7th, 2009

msbing Bing tweaked for Pro Microsoft results

Just as Microsoft was gaining ground with press and reception for their Bing search engine, various pro-Microsoft skewed search results are being uncovered. Not really a surprising move by Microsoft, and given their longtime feud with Apple and the recent cut-throat laptop wars, Microsoft appear to be censoring  Bing’s search results.

Searching for most phrases with anything anti-Microsoft or involving competitors such as Apple, will turn up some interesting results. Just yesterday searching for “is Microsoft Evil?” returned nothing but anti-Google links, but this has now been adjusted. Try a few search combinations like “why are Macs so awesome?” or “why are iPod’s the best?” and you will be quickly shot down with results telling you Macs are expensive, unreliable, poor for gaming, or youtube links for putting your ipod in the microwave, or why Zune’s are so much better!

Domain squatters have already beaten MS & Yahoo! to the punch for YaBing! and most variations, howeverTechflash.com outlines some further info on what the partnership actually entails.  Including a lengthy 10 minute audio interview with MS CEO Steve Balmer and Yahoo! CEO Carol Bartz.

Microsoft’s Bing Search Engine

June 18th, 2009

msbing Microsofts Bing Search EngineMiscrosoft’s new search engine Bing has generated another successive week of healthy buzz, with usage in Australia leading the way. The numbers creating all the buzz come from online metrics firm ComScore.

According to ComScore “Bing continued to increase its position” throughout the week of June 8 with usage interest mainly coming from Australia, with India and China not far behind.

It does look like the service has successfully passed the tentative launch stage and decent numbers of users are giving it a try. Good news for Microsoft you might say as the search market (ie. Google), has been one of the bigger mistakes made by the boys at Redmond.

Only time will tell and of course the quality of Bing’s search algorithm, if search leader Google should be worrying about any market shifts out there. As always though, extra competition is always a good thing and testing the variety of a few search results on both services might lead to some interesting results! Give it a try here: Bing
